Sainsbury’s Logistics. One of our clients at Sainsbury’s had spotted a challenge for their team management population. Team managers in their warehouses needed to deliver daily briefs to large teams of warehousemen. The style of the briefs had recently changed in line with their engagement activities, however, as briefs had been similar for years this was more than just a procedural change, it was a step change in mindset that required a different attitude and new skills. Enter Gecko:Although the skills required were very clear, following a thorough observation exercise we picked up on how important it would be to have buy-in at each individual site in order to make the training programme a success. Involvement at the very start was key, team managers were much more open to receiving the training once they understood that their peers played a part in the design. The site leadership were equipped with the tools and understanding to: • Make the programme a priority. • Support the learning by giving individuals effective feedback. • Model the new behaviours. • Be advocates and sell the changes and programme in their own briefs.
Furthermore we trained a pool of internal champions to coach and support individuals in the future. The pilots were a great success and we continue to work with Sainsbury’s on this project today.
